Tephra Institute of Contemporary Art invites you to join choreographer and professor, Rebecca Lazier, for a special dance workshop on Sunday, September 20th in the Vault at Capital One Hall. This workshop is offered in partnership with the performance of Noli Timere, an interdisciplinary dance project created by Lazier in partnership with artist Janet Echelman.
A movement-based exploration led by choreographer Rebecca Lazier and artists from NOLI TIMERE, grounded in the creative collaboration behind the piece. Open to all ages and abilities, this workshop invites participants to explore themes of emergence and adaptation through improvisation — working with elastics and ropes, we will investigate how to live within uncertainty and change, how to care for ourselves and those we're with, and how our actions ripple outward to affect others and the environment. No prior dance experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to move, listen, and respond.
Lazier is a 2024 Guggenheim Fellow, award-winning director, choreographer, and educator based in New York and Nova Scotia. Recognized as an audacious experimenter, Lazier has choreographed more than eighty works inspired by the thinking and innovation that is possible through collaboration. Her There Might Be Others, was commissioned by New York Live Arts and won a New York Performance “Bessie” Award. Lazier is a Professor of the Practice at Princeton University.
Workshop is free for all participants.Registration is limited to 30 people per class. Registration is required. If you register and are unable to attend, please cancel your registration so that we can offer the space to another dancer. Recording class sessions are not allowed.
