Biography

Harvard, IL

My work uses both traditional and high-tech equipment and methods which creates an opportunity to show how photography has surpassed its mechanical origins to become an expressive, individualistic artform and is what has truly drawn me to this medium and style. For capture, sometimes I work with IR film, sometimes with modified digital cameras - it depends on the situation. I do use photo editing software - but only minimally. I never alter the content of an image because that spoils the most exciting thing about photography - capturing a singular moment that will never come again. In “The Day is Done," I use the leading lines of the mowed field to draw attention to the abandoned building, with the sweeping flow of storm clouds accentuating the focal point elements of the image. A small clump of trees at the old church’s graveyard adds a nice balancing point to the composition. Even my prints blend old and new. My tones are inspired by the sepia hues of the early 1900s but the printing is done on a wide format Epson printer.
