About the Artist

I sketch the initial composition directly on the canvas in pencil, then realize it in thick brushstrokes. After I prepare my palette of liquid oil paint by thinning it with Damar varnish and turpentine, I guide its flow across the canvas where it partially dissolves the underlying brushwork and blends with it. I always work on the floor for better control. I repeat the process over and over, watching, waiting, reassessing the painting's evolution until it has fully revealed itself to me.

French-born American artist Annette received her MFA from the Ecole Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs in Paris. She also studied at the Cooper Union for the Advancement of Science and Art in New York City. After showing her work extensively in France, she set up her studio in Oberlin, OH.

Based in Oberlin, Ohio.
