About the Artist

My paintings are a combination of the wonderful things I see in the world and those I create in my mind's eye. My skies are abstract paintings that my brushes dance from the heart. I see stunning skies and it’s fun to remember them with paint. I begin by covering the canvas with colors I love without regard to images or reality. I’m fascinated by the relationship between earth and the sky. My paintings are layered oils on canvas. I begin with a white surface on which I apply a multi-colored ground. Next, I mix paint: my favorite task. Working with exquisite paints is like squeezing jewels from tubes. The palette is often shades of blue. I establish the light source and flavor the clouds with yellows, pinks and violets appropriate to the time of day, season, and weather. I paint the things I love to see. Next, I play with sky layers. I often turn the canvas upside down as I work because clouds are not subject to gravity. I usually have a composition Idea that I rough in with white chalk until I’m happy with the composition. I love to draw with paint the I meditate with brush strokes and detail. Lives and works in Chevy Chase, MD.
