About the Artist
As a passionate metalsmith and jewelry designer, I envision my jewelry as having timeless appeal with an urban influence. Hand-sculpted exclusively of Sterling Silver, copper, geodes, agates, fossils, and minerals, combined with the element of fire, resulting in simplicity and strength. My torch allows me to capture subtle gradations of color and texture, dramatic in scale, evocative in form with free-flowing, refined appeal. I create "ART You Wear"! I imagine and develop a design concept in my head. Rarely do I sketch it out in great detail. I simply start with a flat piece of Sterling or copper and allow the vision to evolve and flourish as I work. I handsaw the shape perhaps adding texture utilizing a rolling mill or the blow of a hammer. After building a pendant or bracelet layer by layer, I use my torch to bring it all together. After construction, it’s polished to perfection.
I’ve been inspired by the continual discovery of our ancient past, surfacing in daily digs, such as in Montana in 2019. Fossils are now an intriguing and integral part of my late 2019-2021 collection. Sequoia, and Jurassic examples. Each piece is inspired by a fossil; either the ammonite or negative ammonite, and fossilized sequoia wood and palm root. Holding the fossil in my hand, I allow the natural treasure to “talk” to me. Starting with a plate of Sterling, I allow the design to flow from me through metalsmithing tools (and processes) & torching, evolving until it feels finished. It is part of a timeless past & a treasure trove for the future to be worn by a woman with courage, personality, and a strong sense of the importance of our natural heritage.
