The "Dashes and Dots" series is inspired by the natural aesthetics and random order of forests and grasslands. We assemble bamboo, elephant grass, and rattan, as a canvas. Each individual piece is hand painted using a variety of techniques to achieve a unique combination of color and texture. The organic materials are then arranged and mounted to a gradated, colored background and a custom frame completes the artwork. The result is a stylized impressionistic image. "The Grove" 30x60” when viewed from a distance, gives the appearance of a grove of birch trees. When viewed up close the observer gets lost in all the painted details causing your eye to dance around the image. The hand-mixed colored dots in the ”Dots” series are an exploration of texture, shadow and color creating an optical illusion of depth and floating. Painted on a distinctive, aged crackle background or a soft grey, these dots magically hover on these distinctive, contemporary artworks. Flat versus gloss, the heavily applied paint used for the dots are high gloss the background is dead flat, helping to create the illusion. Displayed together, “Dashes and Dots” are a complimentary grouping of texture, light and shadow, and custom coloring that support each other in a cohesive and dynamic way.
