About the Artist
My 31 years working at the Smithsonian deeply influenced my approach as an artist. Immersed in a culture of observation, collection, and storytelling, I developed a profound appreciation for the power of sharing what might otherwise be overlooked. My work is an extension of that practice—an invitation to see the familiar in a new light, to find wonder in the smallest of details, and to elevate the beauty that surrounds us all.
Through my macro photography, I explore the beauty hidden in everyday life—details often overlooked, textures unnoticed, and moments passed by in haste. My work invites viewers to pause, to see the extraordinary in the ordinary. You will find exactly this in my photograph titled “Evidence”. This discarded shoe was exposed to the perfect environment to grow moss all over the surface. I found the shoe while mushroom hunting. At first it really creeped me out because in my mind I was thinking it could be part of a crime scene. As I was photographing it in my studio thoughts of trash, lack of respect for our environment and then the comfort in seeing that the natural world is always in charge.
Using focus stacking software, I craft images with depth and precision, revealing intricate patterns and delicate structures that might otherwise go unseen.
With this collection, I hope to elevate the everyday with an up close look.
