About the Artist
Craig McMillin has been working in clay for over 30 years now and journeying down the crystalline glaze path for almost half that time. His expedition in clay began in high school and continued in college; a few years working as a production potter in Texas gave him the motivation to strike out on his own. Life lead him to a sylvan region of south Louisiana, where he has lived and worked with his family, along with a few random chickens and the occasional guard cat. From the start, the potter's wheel has been his favorite tool to use in his creations. The forms that come from his time on the wheel are the perfect canvas to display the elegant crystals that form during the firing process. The allure of crystalline glazes prompted him to begin experimenting with his own glaze formulas, always on the quest to refine his previous creations. Add to his clay adventure the desire to create the largest wheel thrown stoneware forms possible, and you will enter his realm of making the impossible come alive. Ask him who his best teacher has been over the years, and the answer will inevitably be his last pot.
