Biography

Sherman Oaks, CA

Daniel Newman was born and raised in the Washington, D.C. area. He first discovered photography in high school, where he learned to shoot and develop film. Years later, after relocating to Los Angeles in 2001, he embarked on his fine art journey. Inspired by the work of Helmut Newton, he initially focused on traditional figure art. He had the opportunity to share his work with a museum curator, hoping for constructive criticism. As the curator examined his images, offering only occasional comments, he finally paused on one particular photo, raised his eyebrows, and said, “I’ve never seen that before.”

That became a turning point for Daniel. He was pleased with what he had created, but he didn’t want to be just another figure photographer. As an artist, he not only strives to create beautiful and innovative imagery, but also to find a niche and a style all his own. Drawing from his professional background in video projection and his penchant for vivid colors and abstract imagery, he began to experiment with blending these elements into with his figure art, ultimately producing an ever growing collection he calls Spectrum.

With over 15 years of refining his craft, Daniel continuously strives to create compelling works that both captivate and challenge the viewer. His personal favorites are those pieces that invite contemplation, where the audience is drawn in, struggling to grasp what they’re seeing while simultaneously appreciating its beauty.

Committed to growth and innovation, Daniel's artistic journey remains one of constant exploration. The comment he most cherishes when sharing his work? “Wow! I’ve never seen anything like that before!”
