About the Artist
As both a gemcarver and goldsmith, I am able to achieve my artistic interpretations of the beauty of natural forms. I am the sole creator of every facet of the jewelry I produce and a purist who believes every aspect of a piece should be handmade by the artist. I use diamond tools, many of which I make, to cut, carve and polish the gemstones. I then alloy 24K gold into 14K, 18K or 22K and roll out my own sheet and wire, etc. to use in my hand fabricated goldwork. Australian Opal, Diamonds, Tourmaline, Topaz, Fire Opal, Citrine and Amethyst are some of the gemstones I use. My overall goal is to convey an ocean themed idea thru a minimalist carving style reminiscent of the best Japanese carvers. Color pattern texture and form dictate my art. I am inspired by the curves and geometry of shells and ocean creatures. I love the importance of color in the ocean and how it makes us react , This is the basis of the carvings in my work. I also believe a chain should resonate with the theme of a piece. I make a planished chain that shimmers as the ocean does.My time in the ocean is my inspiration.I am primarily a self-taught artist, however, I fine tuned my goldsmithing skills with Phil Poirier and studied stone cutting and carving with Gem Carver, Lew Wackler.
