Biography

Crab Orchard, TN

My intention, as I build a piece, is to combine form, texture and color that embodies a sense of the natural world in a three-dimensional object. By adding texture to the clay, as I build the form, the texture of the surface becomes integral to the vessel.

Many of my vessels are mixed media. After the work is vitrified in high fired wood kilns, I will often enhance the piece by adding found and or sourced objects such as driftwood, cane or reed.

My ceramic vessel, "Ironman" was inspired by a visit to the Great Lakes. Wheel thrown and textured with clay slip; the brown iron "waves" are juxtaposed with natural driftwood to evoke a stormy day on Lake Erie.
