About the Artist

Creating a connection between Maker and Consumer is at the forefront of what I do. While fast fashion's goal is to create new trendy products as quickly and cheaply as possible, mine is quite the opposite. Leather -a sustainable material that can last decades- comes to us with its own story. Sourced from the most respectable American and European leather tanneries, these animals are bred as a food source and their skins are preserved and repurposed. Unique fat wrinkles and scratch marks remind us that each animal's hide is just as unique as the cow it came from. This is something worth cherishing. My biggest inspiration often comes from these materials. Nothing is better than unrolling a brand-new hide, where that fresh leather smell fills up the entire room. No two hides are the same- each is unique with its own coloring, scars, and fat wrinkles. New bag ideas are often born from studying a new hide and dreaming what it could turn into. Often I have an idea swirling around in my head- such as for my latest Alcott Backpack design- and I'm just waiting for the perfect leather to present itself.
