About the Artist
Jan Elmore of Keswick, Virginia, creates mixed media, wall-mounted sculptures. Her work is composed of native hardwood species and textured metals mounted on painted canvases and artist's panels. Designs may additionally incorporate exotic woods, hand-painted papers, leather, fibers, porcelain, and stucco. Reflecting the importance of sustainability and economy, many of the component pieces of her work are made from scrap materials retrieved from other makers. The resulting designs highlight the materials as the stars of each creation, but also feature color, texture, and composition in supporting roles.
