After establishing a foundation in traditional metalsmithing and classic design, I began to focus on how fine jewelry could express concepts of orientation, purpose, and transformation. I am interested in how form and structure can translate ideas about movement and discovery into tangible, wearable objects. My work often explores the relationship between geometry and emotion - how symmetry, tension, and light can serve as metaphors for our internal and external navigation.
I continue my exploration of direction, purpose, and celestial form with the True North Pendant - a work that bridges art, symbolism, and fine craftsmanship. Hand-fabricated in sterling silver with 18k gold bezels, the pendant centers on a 1.65 ct blue topaz, accented by a 0.07 ct diamond, evoking a radiant compass guiding the wearer toward clarity and intention.
The design reflects my fascination with navigation, both physical and spiritual. The deliberately offset angles and contrasting lengths of each compass arm create a kinetic asymmetry, suggesting the ever-changing motion of a compass needle and the imperfect paths we navigate in pursuit of direction and purpose. The polished surfaces catch and release light unpredictably, echoing the balance between exploration and self-discovery—a reminder that “true north” is found through experience, not perfection. The interplay of mirror-polished precious metals and vibrant blue topaz captures the light and energy of discovery. The diamond accent below serves as an anchor point, balancing movement with stillness and grounding the design in refined simplicity.
My creative process combines traditional fabrication techniques like piercing, forming, soldering, and finishing, with design sensibilities shaped by both modern architecture and natural geometry. Each piece is built by hand from raw materials, allowing the process itself to inform the outcome, each piece turning out unique in a way that invites the wearer to consider their own unique sense of direction and purpose.
