Biography

Sykesville, MD

My work consists of hand-carved linoleum and woodblock prints that use animals as narrative subjects. I am drawn to moments of interaction between animals or between an animal and its environment, where gesture and expression suggest a larger story. These images balance careful observation with subtle exaggeration, allowing the animals to feel both grounded and symbolic.

In Perspective, a bear grasps for a fish in a moment that holds both tenderness and inevitability. The image explores tension and coexistence: predator and prey, strength and vulnerability, care and survival. By isolating a single, intimate interaction, the print invites viewers to consider how meaning shifts depending on point of view—both within the natural world and within our own interpretations of it.

My creative process is rooted in traditional relief printmaking. Each image begins with extensive drawing and planning before being fully carved by hand into linoleum or wood. I work deliberately, using dense line work and layered cuts to build texture and movement, particularly in fur, water, and form. Each print is inked and printed by hand, allowing subtle variations that reflect the physical, human nature of the process.

I make this work because animals have long served as powerful storytelling figures, helping us understand relationships, consequence, and coexistence. Through relief printmaking, I aim to create carefully crafted images that reward close looking and offer space for reflection—works that are visually compelling, materially honest, and narratively resonant.
