About the Artist
Over the last 50 years, I have enjoyed being a recorder of the visual color, vitality, and energy of the Washington, DC metro area. I find that I am more and more challenged to find subjects that have not been destroyed by progress or gentrification. Typical of my work is my portrayal of Ben's Chili Bowl at night. Night scenes are difficult because of the multiple light sources, but more rewarding visually because of the color which is so different from a daylight scene. Ben's, a Washington, DC landmark since 1958, has achieved icon status because of its longevity. I search for an interesting juxtaposition of color that I can exploit in my work. I am more and more being drawn to nature as the urban landscape becomes more severe and colorless. I find that I can often play one against the other to create the visual tension and excitement I am seeking. I hope that my work will continue to resonate with everyday people and be a little oasis of color, good memories, and enjoyment in their personal environments. Lives and works in Washington Grove, MD
