My work explores the emotional and atmospheric essence of place rather than its literal description. I am drawn to landscapes because they hold memory, rhythm, and quiet transformation—spaces where time slows and the viewer can pause, breathe, and reflect. I paint to capture how a place feels rather than how it looks, translating fleeting moments of light, weather, and season into layered color and movement.
My process begins outdoors with plein air sketches made directly from my environment. These initial studies allow me to observe subtle shifts in light and atmosphere and form the emotional foundation of each piece. In the studio, I work with both acrylic and oil paint, building layers through intuitive mark-making, soft transitions, and deliberate abstraction. I push and pull color, allowing the painting to evolve organically until a sense of balance and stillness emerges.
Works such as Winter Haze reflect this approach. The painting distills a quiet coastal landscape into simplified forms and softened horizons, using gentle variations of color to evoke stillness and seasonal calm. Rather than anchoring the viewer to a specific location, the work invites personal interpretation and emotional connection.
I make this work as an invitation—to slow down, to notice, and to reconnect with the quiet beauty found in familiar landscapes. Painting is both a meditative practice and a way of preserving moments that might otherwise pass unnoticed. Through abstraction and layered color, I aim to create spaces that feel expansive, contemplative, and deeply human.
