Taking Old World style techniques and styles in general but throwing in a modern design twist. For instance, much of my work is in an Old World Etruscan style as illustrated by my 14kt yellow gold lariat with pear shaped diamond dangle. The diamond bezel is very much Etruscan style but then I add a modern design twist with the pear shaped diamond drilled and suspended by a single platinum jumpring. Drilled diamonds are a modern design technique since the lasers that are capable of doing the drilling did not exist until after the 2000's. The result is Old World design meets Modern World design.
