About the Artist

I enjoy exploring geometric relationships and searching for proportions that tell something about the function of a piece. Surface patterns, which often cover the pots like fabric, are drawn directly on the pieces, marrying the decoration to the surface. Color is often confined in compartments or zones for emphasis and to enhance my drawing. This relationship of form and surface embodies my resolution that functional objects should be enduring, not only in their craft but in their beauty as well. Much of the surface decoration on my work involves dividing the circle into compartments and filling these symmetrical panels with pattern and color. I am influenced here by the architecture of domes, especially in spiritual places, and often from the inside or ceiling view. Domes from the outside perspective also find their way into my work, often as a teapot body, where the strong form lends itself to the addition of handles and spouts. Lives and works in Carlisle, PA.
