About the Artist

My name is Laura Ahmadi and I have been using art as a coping mechanism, specifically Pyrography, for nearly 5 years now. Pyrography is the art of burning designs into wood. I use different shapes and sizes of tips to create different textures, darkness, and shading in my designs. For example, my koi fish river piece uses many different techniques. For example, the shading on the fins is created by using a soft flat tip and brushing it increasingly quicker to create an ombré effect. But before that us dine a .04cm size tip is used to create a thin outline of everything and the heat is then turned up to fill in darker places with a larger tip. Most of my pieces follow this process where everything is outlined then places are filled in as needed and lastly shading is added. After the burning is done then comes the wood finishing process. The koi river fish is finished with an oil-based stain while all my charcuterie boards are finished with a walnut oil food-safe stain.
