About the Artist

Most of my creations come from my exposure to natural beauty in the earth, as well as a love for geometric challenges. I may see an item of beauty existing in some geometric form and it sparks a thought as to how to incorporate this into a pleasant piece of turned art. I also enjoy nature, however, Natural items are really difficult to incorporate into "wood" but some elements such as flowers or birds or just dimensional items can be worked..... such as..... Living in Pennsylvania and seeing Dogwood trees bloom every spring, and taking note of the unique blossom that the tree produces..... I was intrigued to see if I could incorporate this natural beauty into a piece of art. The real challenge is to find domestic or exotic woods that can provide some color scheme that represents the object in question. My "Dogwood Delight" exhibits my best attempt at reproducing this color effect. Using a dark African Ebony wood for the body of the work represented the wood of the tree and then finding a pink wood was really difficult but accomplished with Tulipwood. The flower incorporated into this turned piece was a major challenge as the piece needed to be built section by section, a diversion from the normal segmented wood assembly. Nevertheless, it was accomplished and I think demonstrates a beautiful piece that clearly shows the Pink Dogwood in Blossom. Lives and works in Freedom, PA.
