Biography

Mattawan, MI

My biomechanical sculptures have evolved throughout a lifetime of experiences, creating life and motion out of static scrap metals. Significant inspiration comes from shapes and designs discovered within the found parts, which takes shape in human and animal subjects alike. As with the pieced titled Rhino, I look for materials of heavy iron and steel to help depict the mass and strength of the animal. From a sketch, parts are cut to size with various cutting tools, then pieced together and welded. The next step is finish grinding or sanding if needed. Finally a dark steel patina and clear topcoat is added for finish effect and protection.
