Biography

Baltimore, MD

Our work integrates textiles and wood to create sculptural lighting and one-of-a-kind, three-dimensional abstract compositions. Rooted in handcrafted processes and informed by contemporary design, our practice explores geometric form, color, and material to create objects that exist at the intersection of function and art. This exploration serves as the foundation of our body of work, driving us to push creative limits and discover new ways to express our artistic vision.

Influenced by the 20th-century art and design movements, we emphasize the principles of simplicity, clean lines, and abstraction, working with the dynamic interplay of space, color, and shapes, allowing each piece to engage both visually and physically with its environment.

Material integrity is central to our process. We work primarily with hardwoods, often incorporating off-cuts from our lighting production to create sculptural objects. These off-cut pieces are the starting point that inspires a series of abstract wall sculptures and wood relief compositions. Acrylic paints and clear mediums are used to enhance the dynamic interplay of space, color, and shapes.
While many of our pieces appear minimal in form, they are often complex in construction. This is exemplified in Wall Sculpture No. 13, composed of interlocking solid black walnut elements assembled using traditional woodworking joinery. The natural finish highlights the grain of the wood, while subtle shifts in perspective reveal changing relationships between form and color, encouraging viewer engagement.

For our lighting work, sculptural lampshades are created using laminated linen and cotton fabrics, shaped through folding techniques to form geometric volumes that diffuse light softly. Paired with wooden elements that are hand-carved and finished with natural hard-wax oils to preserve the beauty of their grain.

Our collection of hand-dyed shades is hand-dyed with natural indigo sourced from a local dye lab and garden, where the plants are grown and processed. This connection to place and process grounds our work in craft traditions while supporting a sustainable and collaborative approach to making. Each creation is a reflection of our commitment to quality, aesthetics, and the profound impact that art and design can have on our environment and lives. We strive to produce well-crafted functional and artistic objects that gracefully balance craft, art, and design.
