East Bend, NC
For six years I have been creating and recently teaching whimsical functional pottery in NC. In 1995 I received my BA in art, entered into a career in tattooing, and later had a few cross-country moves in which I found myself coaching adult swimming with an emphasis on teaching adults to learn to swim. My mornings are busy swimming and coaching, giving me time to work through my imagination and prep for my day in the studio. Though I still tattoo part time, clay is my main focus; I love the challenge of using my hand made objects as my canvas. My 2-D and 3-D designs work through my imagination of nature as well as fantasy and lore to create a world where we can ask “what do we really know?” My love of swimming, nature, and the universe with all of its wonders, real and fantastical, come through the images and sculptures in my work. I greatly enjoy making art that can be appreciated on the wall or as a centerpiece, but can also be taken out and used functionally.
