About the Artist

My needle felting is intended to elicit joy and wonder. As a life long theater artist I have always lived ti create characters and worlds and so I go to great lengths to do so with my needle felting. Each piece starts as a secind hand frame I find either in a thrift or antique shop. These frames all bring to my mind some kind of home for one of my future characters. Once I find the frame I choose the animal and time period I want to put in the frame. Sometimes the animal chooses itself but often times I will be inspired by seeing an animal in real life or a particularly interesting or funny animal video online. The time period often reflects the time period of the frame. I'll come up with a costume for said character and then the needle felting will begin!
Each piece is built out of 100% Merino wool inside and out. I start with building a plain understructure and then will cover it in colored fur to give it a life-like appearance. I use glass eyes to enhance the realisim and histotically accurate clothing to really bring my characters to life.
