My jewelry is defined by polarities of hard and soft. I am transforming metal, inherently rigid and hard material, into fluid, graceful, sculptural jewelry and objects. My hand-crafted pieces, while abstract in nature, draw from observing the shapes around me found in architecture, urban and natural detritus, and human interactions. I am curious about the relationship of what my mind perceives and what my hands can produce. My work is as much about personal connection as it is about function.
Ruth necklace is created out of individual links that are hammered and riveted, so there is not only an interesting shape that makes this necklace unique, also the articulation of the necklace makes it comfortable and it elevates the design. It is part engineering and part artform.
Through my jewelry I am interested in seeing where I can take a single line (wire) or shape (sheet ) to create an unique wearable sculpture.
