About the Artist
Glass is a superbly moldable material. I play with its ability to delight the eye through light refraction and captured motion. Formerly molten, it holds on to that character even after it's frozen into the form I've given it.
Contemplations on architecture is my starting point, reinterpreting form and detail, from Classical Greek through 20th century Art Deco. Working directly and intuitively, I design and build complex graphite molds to cast or press imagery and structure into the glass. Each segment is individually cast, blown, cut, and polished. The smoothness of the exposed interior surface contrasts with the deeply textured cast exterior, creating multiple views into the form. Each composition is a play on positive/negative space, shadow, and light. The metal structures frame the composition and allow light to bounce through the array. They are custom fabricated under my supervision and to my specifications. I complete the final assembly of each one-of-a-kind work. I also show a complementary series of limited production vessels. Lives and works in Cleveland, OH.
