My steel sculpture and furniture are characterized by fluid, graceful designs that are juxtaposed with the straightforward qualities of traditional ironwork. I strive to transform the cold. hard nature of steel into pieces that embody movement and invite touch. Forging and forming allow me to exploit the malleability of the heated metal and to manipulate curve and volume, resulting in work that appears to have been created spontaneously. Traditional blacksmith forging and forming tools are the implements of my work. Distinctive joinery elements and surface texture that result from working by hand are integral to the character of each piece, in particular the large wall sculptures, wherein the rivets are both functional and decorative.
