Biography

Millbury, MA

I create paintings as a way to slow down and observe moments in nature that are often overlooked—quiet pauses, subtle shifts of light, and seasonal transitions that carry emotional weight. My work is rooted in landscape, but it is less about documenting a specific place and more about expressing mood, rhythm, and inner stillness.

The forest scenes in my portfolio, including the winter woodland painting with bare trees and falling snow, reflect my interest in contrast: light emerging from darkness, softness against structure, and stillness within movement. Trees often appear as repeating vertical forms, creating a visual rhythm that guides the eye and suggests resilience and continuity through changing seasons.

My creative process is intuitive and responsive. I allow the image to develop gradually, responding to each stage rather than working toward a fixed outcome. This approach mirrors how I experience nature—through observation, patience, and acceptance of imperfection. The unpredictable elements that emerge during the process become an essential part of the finished work, adding depth and life.

I am inspired by the landscapes of New England and by the influence of my Japanese background, which informs my sensitivity to atmosphere, balance, and the use of open space. These influences shape my desire to create work that feels calm yet alive, expressive yet grounded.

Ultimately, I make this work to offer a moment of quiet reflection. My paintings are meant to invite viewers to pause, breathe, and reconnect with a sense of peace, positive energy, and gentle joy—much like stepping into a quiet forest after fresh snowfall.
