My work captures the beauty and spirit of iconic landscapes and landmarks across the United States and beyond. Having traveled to all 50 states and numerous countries, I seek to preserve scenes that reveal the soul of each location. I choose these subjects to preserve important places and moments in time. Photography allows me to pause the constant motion of the world and share moments of stillness and wonder that remind us why our surroundings matter. My subjects range from breathtaking national parks and coastlines to historic structures and city skylines, all with the goal of inviting viewers to connect with familiar and faraway places in new ways.
My process begins with careful planning and patience, as I aim to photograph each scene in ideal lighting, typically at sunrise or sunset. These hours provide warmth and depth, casting shadows and highlights that enhance the scene’s emotional impact. With my camera and an array of specialized lenses, I compose each shot to capture both vast landscapes and finer details. My goal is to make the viewer feel as if they’re stepping into the scene, experiencing the unique mood and story of each location.
One of my favorite images is the sun rising at Bodie Island Lighthouse. I had staked out the location for weeks on Google Earth and visited the site the day before the photo was taken. Using several applications, I tracked the stars and determined the ideal spot for the composition. I chose a boardwalk behind the lighthouse to capture a reflection with the sun rising just out of frame. By using ND filters, I could keep the shutter open longer to create a smooth reflection in the water.
The morning of the shoot worked even better than expected. As I set up an hour before sunrise, a thick fog rolled over the water. Enough mist lingered to illuminate the foreground as the sun crested the horizon. The combination of mist and long exposure created a haunting orange glow wrapping around the lighthouse from the sea. The final exposure produced a perfect reflection in the water.
I edit my photos with a light touch, making minimal adjustments to bring out the natural colors, contrast, and textures I observed on-site. This approach maintains authenticity while enhancing the image’s ability to transport viewers to that moment in time. Each photograph is printed on museum-grade paper or on floating metal, offering distinct styles for different spaces. Paper provides a classic, tactile finish, while metal offers a modern, vibrant look with depth and dimension.
Through my photography, I hope to inspire others to appreciate the beauty around us, whether it’s a familiar landmark seen in a new light or a distant landscape waiting to be explored. Each piece preserves a moment of timeless beauty, allowing it to be experienced again and again.
