The Festival weekend offers both Festival Friday and the Family Art Park.

Festival Friday

September 10, 2021
10am–5pm, at Reston Town Center

We will safely kick off the Festival at 11am on Friday September 10th, with the long-awaited installation celebration for Sue Wrbican’s surrealist-inspired Buoyant Force sculpture located in Reston Town Square Park. Enjoy the rest of your day at the Northern Virginia Fine Arts Festival where you can meet and engage with exceptional fine art and craft artists from around the nation, and have lunch or dinner at one of the many eateries at Reston Town Center.

About the Buoyant Force Celebration

Friday, September 10, at 11am

Free and open to the public.

Join us as we celebrate Buoyant Force, the 50-foot steel sculpture by artist Sue Wrbican, inspired by the paintings of American Surrealist Kay Sage. The event will feature a poetry reading by Heather Green and a Reston Community Center sponsored dance performance by Tariq O’Meally.

For the 2021 Festival performance, contemporary dance artist Tariq O'Meally will respond to Sue Wrbican's sculpture, Buoyant Force. All performances are free to attend and will take place in Reston Town Square Park.

Festival Cocktail Hour and Artist Award Ceremony

Tephra ICA will host a private Festival Cocktail Hour and Artist Award Ceremony where ten Artist Awards of Excellence, sponsored by Boston Properties, will be presented to recognize outstanding artwork from Festival artists across ten categories. Tephra ICA board of directors, Festival artists, sponsors, and Tephra ICA members at the $100 level are welcome to attend. Not a Tephra ICA member? Join now!

The private “come as you are” event will be held Saturday, September 11th from 6pm – 7:30pm in the Reston Town Center Pavilion.

Bar service will be provided by Please Bring Chips and grab-n-go chips and pretzel snacks will be provided by Trader Joe’s while supplies last. The event is made possible by our Pavilion Sponsor, M Group Architects.

Family Art Park

Saturday & Sunday 10 am – 4pm daily
Reston Town Center Pavilion

Tephra ICA proudly presents Family Art Park with on-site and take-away art activities in addition to a place to relax. Stop by and engage in free, social distanced friendly art projects! As you explore, be sure to visit the Tephra ICA tent to learn more about our programs and the Festival sponsors – Reston Community Center, M Group, LMI Designs, and F45 Fitness.

Take-and-Make Activity Bags 
Pick up 11am and 2pm, daily

Supplies are limited. 

Stop by the Tephra ICA Family Art Park table to pick up a Take-and-Make activity bag full of fun art projects! This year’s activities are inspired by Buoyant Force, a 50 foot sculpture by artist Sue Wrbican, located in Reston Town Square Park. Creative projects like "Marvelous Maquettes” and “Buoyant Oracle Future Prediction Cards" are fun for the whole family. Easy-to-follow instructions are included. Take-and-Make activity bags are free and will be available for pick-up at a first come, first served basis. 

The M Group Peace Crane Project 

Stop by the Family Art Park to create and fold an origami crane as a symbol of peace or in memory of a loved one. All origami cranes will be added to the on-site installation. Want to get started now? You can create your cranes prior to the event!
